There’s a lot of bands/artists that will be at Bonnaroo (no shit), and I have never heard of most of them. I’m putting together a brief synopsis of each of them, and I’ll do my best to provide at least 1 link to a song from them. Keep in mind, these will all have some kevin-bias, and feel free to add/edit each if you want to. I don’t care.
David Byrne
Genres: new wave, alternative, experimental?
Singer of Talking Heads, has a bunch of solo albums, he’s scottish. I don’t have much to say about him or his music. (what a way to start out)
“His song ‘Like Humans Do’ was featured in many installations of Microsoft Windows XP.” (great.)
Tracks:
Like Humans Do
Life Is Long
MGMT
Genres: neo-psychedelic (!), electronic
Originally the band was named “Management,” but it was later changed when they found out there were several other bands with that name. Their website is weird. Who knew that baby’s head meant discography and a hotdog holding a bag of money is a link to their store.
Tracks:
Kids
Time To Pretend
Coheed & Cambria
Genres: progressive rock, emo (the band doesnt think so, but others say it…)
All their albums are concept albums, based off a series of sci-fi comics (The Amory Wars) the lead singer developed.
Tracks:
Welcome Home
A Favor House Atlantic (you probably heard this on the radio)
The Ting Tings
Genres: indie, electropop
They’re a british pop duo, they’re album reached #1 in the UK (big deal, right?).
Tracks:
That’s Not My Name
Shut Up and Let Me Go (sounds familiar, i think it was in an ipod commercial)
Crystal Castles
Genres: electronic
Another duo, not from england (CANADA!). The chick apparently goes nuts on stage.
Their musical style has been described as having “ferocious, asphyxiating sheets of warped two-dimensional Gameboy glitches and bruising drum bombast pierce [the] skull with sheer shrill force, burrowing deep into the brain like a fever”. So, its very video game-ish.
Tracks:
Untrust Us
Vanished
Yeasayer
Genres: “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel” (self-described), indie rock, psychodelic
“Live performances include trippy, psychedelic visuals projected in the background.” Expect lots of druggies at their show, I guess.
Tracks:
Tight Rope (youtube)
Sunrise (youtube)
